In 1999 The Saudi Investment Bank (SAIB) and Amex Middle East, Bahrain, formed a joint venture company under the name of Amex Saudi Arabia Ltd. (ASAL) in order to take over and actively manage the Amex franchise in the Kingdom. ASAL works on maintaining the leading position of the card in KSA and issuing a card in Saudi Riyal to better serve the local market.
